Patricia Ann Kemmerer, 78 of Jewell, Kansas, passed away September 16, 2011 at Mitchell County Hospital. Patricia Ann Shaver was born August 14, 1933 on a farm Northeast of Jewell. She attended Paradise Country School, Jewell Grade School and graduated from Jewell High School in 1951.
Patricia married her lifelong friend Robert Kemmerer September 23, 1951. They shared a week short of 60 years of marriage. They lived on a farm North of Jewell for most of their married life, moving to Jewell and later to Long Term Care in Beloit.
They were blessed with six children; Joycelyn and husband Allen Goff, Jane and husband Rick Gibbs, John and wife Jan Kemmerer, Joleta and husband Kevin Shamburg, Jerald and wife Jacque Kemmerer, and James and wife Kelley Kemmerer; fourteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Patricia was active in the Legion Auxiliary, State and Local Garden Clubs and studied to become a Master Judge after her children were grown. She judged many county fairs and flower shows throughout Kansas. She joined the Jewell Christian Church as a girl in 1944 and later belonged to Salem United Methodist Church and again the Christian Church. Patricia was a member and officer of Daughters of the American Revolution.
Patricia's and Robert's greatest time spent together was working with youth in the community. She spent many years working with Vacation Bible School, taking kids to Easter Pageants in Oklahoma, teaching Sunday School, leading the local 4H club, helping youth on 4H Junior Leader Exchange trips and other youth activities.
Services will be held 2:00 PM, September 19, 2011 at the Jewell Christian Church, Jewell, Kansas, with Pastor Daniel Daniels officiating. Mrs. Susan Greene will be (was) the organist, and Gaye Daniels will be (was) the soloist. Casket bearers will be (were) the grandsons: Lucas Goff, Richard Gibbs, Jr., Ryan Gibbs, Joel Kemmerer, Justin Kemmerer, Jeff Shamburg, Bryan Shamburg, Adam Shamburg, Jonathan Kemmerer, and Chris Kemmerer. Honorary casket bearers were granddaughters: Jeana Gibbs-Burton, Jerilyn Kemmerer, Sarah Kemmerer, and Amber Kemmerer. Interment will be in the Wallace Cemetery, Jewell, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to Jewell County 4-H or Christian Church, Jewell, Kansas. The family will receive friends at the Melby Mortuary, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, September 18, 2011. Visitation will be Sunday, September 18, 2011, from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m.
