Rolland W. "Ron” Oliver , 54 years of age, of Burr Oak passed away Friday, June 8, 2012 at his residence in Burr Oak. He was born on April 27, 1958 in Minot, North Dakota to Harold and Charlene (Sebo) Oliver.
Ron graduated from Burr Oak High School in 1976. He worked in the oil fields, was a trucker, small engine repairman, and in later years he carved canes from Osage Orange hedge. He was a determined worker and perfection was the desired end to the project. He took pride in his lawn and garden. When not working he enjoyed the simple life, a true country boy at heart, even fishing for catfish and pitching horseshoes.
Rolland is survived by his wife – Anne of the home; daughter – Jamie, and husband, Dustin Inslee of Turon, Kansas; step-daughter – Erica, and husband Sean Edwardson of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; Step-son – Tyler and wife, Kendra James of Wichita, Kansas; his mother, Charlene Oliver, of Tacoma, Washington: 4 brothers - Alan Oliver of Wichita, Kansas, Harold and wife, Ladonna Oliver of Waynoka, Oklahoma , Lyle Oliver of Shattuck, Oklahoma, Kenny and wife, Nancy Oliver of Augusta, Kansas; sister – Kathy, and husband Joe Hollis of Mankato, Kansas; his mother-in-law, Carolyn Barrett of Wichita, Kansas; sister-in-law – Rebecca, and husband, David Welch of Kansas City, Missouri; 2 Brother-in-laws - Robert Barrett of Wichita, Kansas, Michael Barrett of Wichita, Kansas; grandchildren: Shaela, Kalea, Wyatt, Emma Lea, Emma, and Kaimen; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.. He was preceded in death by his father, Harold Oliver; father-in-law, David Barrett; Sister-in-law, Ellen Barrett Martinez; and grandparents, Guy H. and Dorothy Oliver.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am Monday, June 11, 2012 in the Melby Mortuary Chapel, Mankato with Bishop Max Bell officiating. Casket bearers will be: Kenneth Oliver, Harold Oliver, Michael Pate, Michael Parrett, Joe Hollis, and Bing Korb. Interment will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday, June 10, 2012 with Family greeting friends from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Melby Mortuary Chapel in Mankato. Memorials may be left to Solomon Valley Hospice or the donor’s choice, with the funeral home in charge. Condolences may be left online at www.melbymortuary.com.
