Maurice Richard Flavin was born August 15, 1925, in Cawker City, Kansas, to John Patrick and Elizabeth (Heinen) Flavin, and died Monday, January 14, 2008, at his home in Esbon, Kansas, at the age of 82 years, 4 months, and 29 days.
He attended school in Cawker City, and then served in the United States Navy during World War II. Maurice eventually lived in the home of his sister, Mary Kriley, and her children, after the death of Mary’s husband, Kenneth.
Maurice was a long time member of the Esbon Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council # 1148, and the Lion’s Club. He was a sixty year member of the American Legion Post #379.
Maurice enjoyed farming, was fond of his nieces and nephews, and loved to research genealogy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Flavin; and two brothers, “Jim” and “Pat”.
Survivors include three siblings: Harold and wife, Lona Flavin of Cawker City, Kansas; Mary Kriley of Esbon, Kansas; and Sister Edwardine Flavin of Concordia, Kansas; a sister-in-law, Xrepha Flavin of Newton, Kansas; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Father George Chalbhagam officiated the Vigil Service on Sunday, January, 20, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Esbon, Kansas, and a Mass to celebrate the life of Maurice R. Flavin was held on Monday, January 21, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Esbon, Kansas. Server was Tanner Peroutek. Organist was Bonnie Benoit, and hymn leader was Harold “John” Beam, Jr. Inurnment was in the St. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Cawker City, Kansas. The family suggests memorials to be given to Catholic Charities. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
