Rex Dale Kennedy, age 82, of Mankato, Kansas, passed away Tuesday June 4, 2013 in Jewell County Hospital Mankato, Kansas.
He was born March 16, 1931, in Imperial, Nebraska to Forest and Goldie (Gibbs) Kennedy.
On January 2, 1955, he was united in marriage to Doris Ann Thronson, who survives.
Preceding him in death were his parents, sisters June Kennedy Harmon and Viva Jean Kennedy, grandson Darrell Ryan Renner, great granddaughter Shelby Paige Schreiner. Brother in laws Paul Harmon, Don Williams and Ron Cheslik.
Surviving are his son Danny and wife Donna, Downs, Kansas; son Dennis and wife Julie, Mankato, Kansas; daughter Cheri and husband Darrell Renner, Shell Knob, Missouri; daughter Jeri and husband Tim Beale, Clay Center, Nebraska. Sister Beth and husband Al Koch, Salina, Kansas; sister Lila Cheslik, Tacoma, Washington, sister Reta Williams, Tacoma, Washington,brother Jack and wife Sandy, Tacoma, Washington. Ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. His beloved dog Sandy. Many special nieces and nephews.
Rex graduated high school in 1949 from Lincoln High School in Tacoma, Washington. He then moved back to Kansas and helped his grandparents on their farm near Esbon. He served in the US Army Corp of Engineers at the NATODEPOT from 1952 to 1954. Rex did a wide variety of different jobs, driving the school bus, farming and livestock, selling Northup King Seeds in which he earned several prizes and trips. Rex was the first Jewell County technician for the Kansas Artificial Breeding Unit, KABSU. He loved to make things, whether out of wood, iron, paintings or fabric. He made some beautiful quilts and wonderful embroidery projects.
Memorials may be made to the Senior Center in Mankato.
A celebration of his life will be held this fall.
