Hattie Amy (Roe) Lucas was born December 7, 1909, in Harrison Township, Jewell, County, Kansas, to Elmer and Josie Roe, and died August 26, 2007, in Salem Oregon, at the age of 97 years, 9 months, and 19 days.
She graduated from Burr High School in 1927 and Kansas State Teacher College of Emporia in 1929. Hattie married Howard W. Lucas of Burr Oak, Kansas, in 1930. She lived in Kentucky, Idaho, Virginia, and Oregon in her lifetime. Hattie was active in church affairs, and was an accomplished pianist.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brothers – Merle and Lawrence, and sister – Veda.
Hattie is survived by her son – Bradley Lucas; granddaughters – Shannon Manning and Megan Hopkins; five great-grandchildren in Virginia; sister-in-law – Charlotte Roe; and nieces – Nancy Jo Cortner, Violet Roe, and nephew – Ralph Jay Roe.
A celebration of Hattie Lucas life was held at 11:00 a.m., July 15, 2008, at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas, with Pastor Jack Roe officiating. Inurnment followed close to her parents, brothers, and sister. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
