H. Maxine Benson

Maxine Benson of Mankato, Kansas, was born on April 17, 1920 to Homer and Mabel Christensen in Concordia, Kansas, and died March 30, 2014, at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, at the age of 93 years.

Maxine attended rural grade schools, and graduated from Norway, Kansas, High School in 1938.

On February 7, 1939, she married Carl Marcus Benson making their home near Norway, Kansas. To this union four children were born.

Maxine worked in the office at the Jewell County Hospital, Mankato, Kansas, and also helping her husband in farming. In retirement, they enjoyed golf, traveling and camping.

Maxine was preceded in death by her husband; parents; son – Mark Benson; son-in-law –Jack Bradrick; infant grandson – Christopher Benson; great-grandson- Adam Fullerton; two brothers and two sisters.

Survivors are children – Marjean and husband, Leonard Schroeder of Superior, Nebraska; Richard and wife, Linda Benson of McPherson, Kansas; Susan Bradrick and companion, Don Zielke of Arroyo City, Texas; sisters – Clarice Cote of Albany, Oregon, and Marilyn LeClair of Lincoln, Nebraska; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 2, 2014, from 9:00a.m. to 8:00 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Mortuary. A celebration of life service will be (was) held, Thursday, April 3, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mankato, Kansas,  with Pastor Dennis Beckman officiating. Mrs. Gayle Molzahn will be (was) the pianist.  Hymns that the congregation will sing or sung are (were) “Precious Lord Take My Hand” and “Lord’s Prayer.” Casket bearers will be (were): Ron Fullerton, Brad Templin, Riley Templin, Richard Benson, Don Zielke, and Leonard Schroeder. Honorary casket bearers will be (were): Doyle (Hooley) Alcorn, Lee Loring, Shane Ross, and Lance Benson.   Interment will be (was) in the Riverview Cemetery, Scandia, Kansas.
