Louise Korb

Louise Korb, 91, of Burr Oak, Kansas passed away April 4, 2016. She was born Friday, June 13, 1924, on family homestead land in Burr Oak area.

Louise attended high school in Burr Oak where she played first chair trumpet in the band and turned cartwheels as a cheerleader. After high school Louise worked for a year at the courthouse in Mankato before marrying Boyd Korb on March1, 1942. His forebears also homesteaded in the Burr Oak area. To their union three children were born: Sandy, Bing and Heather.

Louise liked being outside, both with her father and then with her husband. She and Boyd were wheat farmers with his, and her, 4-wheel drive Versatile tractors. They also showed registered horned Hereford cattle at major shows around the country winning numerous trophies. Louise maintained a life-time interest in the cattle operation. Louise attended the Burr Oak Christian Church her entire life and spent a number of years teaching Sunday school. When Louise would climb down from the Versatile she would begin the myriad of other activities she participated in. She sponsored 4-H and church projects. She was also a professional seamstress much sought after due to her creativity. Louise was highly energetic and had countless interests including re-inventing and re-designing projects of all types. She was talented as a designer and artist.

Louise was a unique individual and will be missed by all who knew her.

Service for Louise Korb will be held at a later date. Interment was in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Online condolences can be left at www.melbymortuary.com. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
