Ryan Wayne Ost, 30, Topeka, died Sat., December 26, 2009 at his home.
He was born March 14, 1979 in Belleville, the son of Brad and Linda Eilert Ost. He graduated from Mankato High School and attended Ft. Hays State University. He lived in the Hays area until moving to Flagstaff, AZ in 2003, and to Topeka in 2005.
Ryan was employed at St. Francis Hospital. He worked to rehabilitate patients who were recovering from life changing circumstances.
He was happiest when helping others, no matter their needs. One way or another, Ryan could make you smile. He loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing, especially when joined by his son Caden. He enjoyed teaching Caden new things, ornery and otherwise. A favorite uncle, he loved playing with his nieces and nephews. He took a lot of pride in caring for his family, home, and yard. As a family, they attended Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church.
He married Darcy Fast on June 9, 2001 in Yuma, Colorado. They were happily married for 8 ½ years and were blessed with a son, Caden in 2004. He was a loving father, husband, brother, and son.
Survivors include his wife, Darcy and son, Caden; his parents, Brad and Linda Ost of Mankato; a sister, Staci Whelchel (Chris) of Esbon; grandmother, Anne Ost of Mankato; Darcy’s parents, Cliff and Rosina Fast of Cimarron; Darcy’s grandparents, John and Ruth Loewen of Meade; Darcy’s sisters, Kylee (Brad) Philipp of Colby and Cara (Cole) Andreasen of Colby; many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Milford Ost and uncle, Kenneth “Rubber” Eilert.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Fairlawn Heights Wesleyan Church, 5400 SW Huntoon, Topeka , KS 66604. Graveside services will be at 4:00 p.m. at Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, KS. Ryan will lie in state and the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:00 pm this evening at Dove Funeral Home, 4020 SW 6th Ave, Topeka.
Memorial contributions may be made to an educational fund for Caden, c/o First National Bank, 121 N. Main, Cimarron, KS 67835.
