Alice Joan Ost was born in Jewell, KS on December 24, 1928 to Bess Pearl Meeker (Ford) and Clarence Pearle Meeker. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1946. On August 8, 1948 she married Darrell Dean Ost in the parsonage of Harmony United Methodist church in Mankato. Over the years they traveled with the Air Force and lived in many places including Tacoma, WA, the Azores islands, Dickenson, ND, and Colorado Springs, CO. In 1964, they moved to Riverside, IA. In 1967, Joan went to work as a maintenance coordinator for the Physical Plant at the University of Iowa and later at the University of Iowa Hospital Systems in Iowa City, Ia. In 1989 Joan and Darrell moved back to Mankato to enjoy their retirement. Joan spent 23 years wintering in Phoenix, AZ and came back for good to Mankato in 2013. She died, Saturday, April 21, 2018 at the Mitchell County Hospital, Beloit, Kansas, at the age of 89 years, 3 months, and 27 days.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Darrell, her parents, sister Margaret Bennett, brothers Eugene, Loren, and Gale Meeker, and grandson Hunter Ost.
She is survived by daughter Holly Borncamp (Brad), son Kelly (Sindy), and 6 grandchildren Dave and Kaitlin Borncamp, Allison, Katie, Harper, and Jennifer Ost, sister-in-law Sharon Ost and nieces and nephews.
She will be remembered by those who knew her best as a loving, kind and generous person.
