Darwin “Davy” Phillip Long, 78, of Ionia, Kansas, passed away on August 22, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones.
He was born on December 30, 1947, to Phillip and Hulda (Dettmer) Long in Cedar, Kansas. As a young boy, Darwin left school early to work on the family farm, pouring his heart into agriculture and helping care for his family—a true testament to his lifelong selflessness.
On August 31, 1971, he married the love of his life, Crystal Munroe on Cape Cod in Harwich Port, Massachusetts. Their beautiful union brought five children whom he loved with all of his heart: Bonnie, Terri, Lynn, Luke, and Matthew.
Darwin was preceded in death by his parents, Phillip and Hulda (Dettmer) Long; his brother, Ronald “Ronnie” Long; and his sisters, Virginia Dix, Phyllis Gates, Carol Gordine, and Marlene McCue. He is survived by his loving wife, Crystal Long of Ionia, KS; his five children, Bonnie (Brian) McAlister of Burrton, KS, Terri (Eugene) Sicard of Abilene, KS, Lynn (Andy) Feldmann of Jewell, KS, Luke (Kristen) Long of Beloit, KS, and Matthew (Jacqulyn) Long of Ionia, KS; 14 grandchildren, Crystal, Andrew, Lilly, Samanthah, Ethan, Jesse, Emily, Bryce, Teegan, Wesley, Kaliana, Derrick, Jayden, and Serinity; four great-grandchildren, Blair, Avery, Addison, and Payton; his sisters, Joy Hancock, Betty Zade, and Sharon Beckley; and brother Donald “Tiger” Long and many other family and friends.
A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials and donations be sent to https://everloved.com/lifeof/darwin-long/.
