David Alan Ortman

July 3, 1958 — October 13, 2021

David A. Ortman, age 63, of Mankato, Kansas, passed away on Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital, Hastings, Nebraska. David was born on July 3, 1958, in Smith Center, Kansas to Max and Esther (Thompson) Ortman.

On July 21, 2007 David married Cynthia I. Carlman at the Mankato Country Club.

David worked at the Kiers Thriftway for 21 years in the Meat Department as the Meat Cutter.  David recently worked for USD #107, Mankato Public Schools as a Custodian.

He was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church, Masonic Lodge, V.F.W., Auxiliary all of Mankato.

David’s hobbies included Karaoke, camping, working in his yard, sitting at the lake and watching the Sunset, all sports especially Kansas State University, he enjoyed staying at the family farm, just sitting outside his camper and taking all the outdoors in.  David loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren, nieces and nephews and all his extended family.

David is survived by his wife, Cynthia of the home in Mankato; brother, Terry Ortman (Irene), Mankato, KS; step-daughters, Jaralee Hughes, Smith Center, KS; Chelsey Oltman (Travis), Minden, NE; grandchildren, Isaias, Talon, Brantley, and Kaley; his sister-in-law, Marie Taylor (Don), Radium, KS; brother-in-law, Steve Wolf, Grinnell, KS; and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Max and Esther, a sister, Diana Sorge and her husband Harley, sister-in-law, Brenda Wolf, a niece, Ashley Wolf.

Visitation will be held from 1-5 pm, Sunday, October 17, 2021 at the Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas.  Family will receive friends from 3-5 pm.

Celebration of Life service will be held 10:30 am, Monday, October 18, 2021 at the Harmony United Methodist Church, Mankato, Kansas with Pastor Jim Rice officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery, Mankato, Kansas.  Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Jewell County Masonic Lodge #11.
