Don was the only child born to Russell & Frances Walker on May 6, 1927. He departed this life on September 2, 2018, at Mitchell County Hospital.
Don grew up southwest of Mankato where his grandparents homesteaded in a dug out. He attended Liberty Country School and graduated from Mankato High School with the class of 1945. Don enlisted in the US Navy following graduation with the hopes of becoming a pilot, but with WW2 winding down it was phased out. After attending one year at Kansas State Don realized his passion was farming and followed his dream.
In the summer of 1949 with the carnival being held on the main street of Mankato, Don saw Darlene watching the ferris wheel with her friend Beryl Ault and decided to ask her if she would like to go on a ride with him and so that was the beginning of their story. Don & Darlene were married on October the 22 nd 1950 at the Harmony Methodist Church. They were blessed with 3 sons, Steven, Bob and Kenny.
Don supported the family by working at the Highway Department as a draftsman for a couple of years. Along with farming, he raised hogs, chickens and had a cow / calf operation.
Don enjoyed bowling, boating, water skiing and family vacations. He would tow his homemade camping trailer and toured many State Parks and wilderness areas. Later in life, Don and Darlene enjoyed bus tours with the highlight being Hawaii and Alaska.
Don was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife Darlene of 67 years. His three sons; Steven, Bob and wife Leslie, Kenny and wife Monica. Five grandsons; Kyle, John, Steven, Dakota and Tai. Four granddaughters; Cerissa, Ciara, Katie and Abby, and six great grandchildren.
