Kenneth Ray Garman, age 65, of Burr Oak, died Thursday, April 12 th 2018 at Barnes Jewish Hospital in Saint Louis Missouri, surrounded by his loving family.
Ken was born February 16, 1953 in Concordia, KS along with his twin brother Daniel Lloyd Garman, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Maxine Garman.
Ken grew up in Burr Oak Kansas, where he participated in student council, basketball, football, and track. Upon graduation in 1971, Ken and Dan attended Colby Community College. Ken and Dan spent their twenties living and working together in Wichita, KS. Eventually, they both made their way back to Burr Oak and began farming alongside their father, Lloyd, in the late 1970s. Ken was a strong advocate of community and education, as he sat on multiple community boards and earned his bachelor of science in 2006 from Iowa State University.
Ken married Leah Hesting on August 2, 2008. Ken and Leah were inseparable for over ten years and enjoyed spending time traveling together, walking, drinking coffee in the mornings, practicing their faith, farming and visiting their children.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife Leah Garman, his children Sarah and husband - Nick Abegglen,and their children – Jayden, Carter, and Harrison, James and wife -Erica Garman and daughter - Evelyn, Jake and wife - Alexandria Hesting, and son - John, Zane Hesting, Katie Hesting, 5 grandchildren, twin brother Danand wife - Vycke Garman, and two sisters, Sherry and husband - Bob Parsons, and Linda and husband- Gary Pahls.
Ken’s service is set to be at the Christian Church in Burr Oak, Kansas on Wednesday, April 18th at 10:30 a.m. Interment followed in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Kansas. Visitation will be held at Melby Mortuary in Mankato, Kansas on Tuesday, April 17 from 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm. The family suggests memorials to the Burr Oak Library or the Burr Oak Community Center, Burr Oak, Kansas. Melby Mortuary, Mankato, Kansas, was in charge of arrangements.
