Nancy Howell

Nancy Mae Howell, 67, of Formoso, Kansas, passed away at her home on Sunday, September 27, 2026. She was born on October 1, 1958 in Superior, Nebraska to Jimmie and Beverly (Thompson) Weir.

She attended schools in Belleville and Salina and completed her GED.

She worked as a waitress in her youth, at ADM in Salina, KS, and later as a cook at Mankato Grade School. She was a cook at the Senior Center and then went on to be a CNA and CMA at Jewell County Hospital.

Nancy married James Howell on May 27, 1978, in Formoso, Kansas. This union brought two children, Melissa and Matthew.

Nancy enjoyed volunteering at the Formoso Thrift Store and the Formoso Library. She enjoyed cooking, reading and watching movies of all kinds, from romance to true crime and everything in between. She enjoyed music, the good kind, and kept up on all of the new stuff, asking her granddaughter if she had heard a certain song.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Jimmie and Beverly Weir, and a son Matthew Howell.

Nancy will be missed by her husband, James Howell of the home; her daughter Melissa Herrman (Michael) of Great Bend, KS; grandchildren Jacob Herrman, and Ashley Herrman (Bayne Chism); siblings Jim Weir (Marsha Hayes) of Broken Arrow, OK, Tammy Meister (Steven) of Randall, KS, and Debbie Beck (Rocky Bunce), Atchison, KS.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at the Formoso Community Church with Pastor Daniel Waide officiating. The family suggests memorials to OCCK Transportation. They can be sent in care of Melby Mortuary, P.O. Box 384, Mankato, KS 66956.
