Virgil “Ray” Thompson, age 78, of Beloit, Kansas entered into rest on Saturday, February 8, 2020 at the Jewell County Hospital. He was born on May 26, 1941 in Cimarron, Kansas to Virgil Elmer and Lucille (Ray) Thompson.
Ray was a graduate of Cimarron High School. Right after high school, Ray proudly entered into the Army service, then later graduating from Fort Hays State University.
Ray was a member of the American Legion, Beloit, KS.
He loved all sports and excelled in all of them. Ray was particularly proud of his time playing football for the Army, and playing both football and basketball at Ft. Hays State University. In later years, once he couldn’t play sports himself anymore, he followed them very closely and became a statistician. Ray enjoyed spending time with his family and most of all, his grandkids. He also loved spending his time hunting and fishing.
Ray owned and operated T & R Truck in Beloit, KS.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, Beloit, KS; son, Aaron (Sara), Jefferson City, MO; daughter, Lori (Curt), Jewell, KS; son, Ryan (Laura), Pierre, SD; 12 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; Brother, Donald (Christina), Flint, MI; Sister-in-law, Emily, Kansas City, MO; a host of nieces and nephews, honorary Brothers, Richard Morrison “Flappy” and Bob Elliott “Ed”, and many extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Lucille and brother, Glenn Thompson
Ray chose cremation. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, February 11, 2020 at the St. Theresa Catholic Church, Mankato, KS.
